A bio from LaurieAnn:

Teaching is something that has always come easily to me and I’ve always enjoyed figuring out how people learn.  Before I started teaching dance, I was doing couples counseling and mediations.  I never worked with mentally ill people.  What I did was teach communication skills. I was also teaching self defense classes to people with physical disabilities.  I asked my students how they felt vulnerable and how they felt strong.  In my Dojo, I would mimic each disability as best I could, and have people attack me to figure out how to use each student’s strengths to protect their vulnerabilities.  It was challenging, fun, and rewarding.  It set the stage for the work I do now when I have students with various physical challenges.  So now, I can recognize and work with psychological and physical blocks, as well as being able to teach couples how to practice without irritating each other.  I believe that dance is the embodiment of joy, and it’s my mission to spread that joy to people who would otherwise not have access to it.  If my students learn to have fun on the dance floor and be fun to dance with, I’m doing my job!

How it all Works

The first lesson takes 90 minutes to 2 hours because it includes an explorer session, an extensive interview that teaches me about your goals, your history about dance and learning in general, and any blocks to learning that might get in your way.  This way I can tailor the lessons to fit your way of learning and address any issues that may have gotten in the way with other teachers.

Scheduling lessons once a week works best for most people, but you can come more or less frequently as you wish.  My schedule is flexible, so you can pick a regular time that works for you and lock it in, or come at a different time if your schedule is inconsistent.

Cancellation without twenty four hour notice costs you a lesson. Exceptions may be made for emergencies at LaurieAnn’s discretion.

Too shy to get out there and ask strangers to dance?

If you need a skilled partner for a special event or just to accompany you to a dance for practice, your teacher can be hired at the hourly cost of private lessons for a social evening.
