If you’ve read my vision statement, you know that my dream for the future has to do with encouraging people to break into spontaneous dance unselfconsciously, just for fun when inspired by the environment. This wonderful instillation came about as an idea to get people to choose the stairs instead of the escalator. It’s a dancer’s dream, but it also inspired the dance impulse in a huge variety of people! Considering how fun escalators can be, it is a daunting task to make the stairs even more fun. Watch this to see how they did it![embedplusvideo height=”388″ width=”640″ standard=”http://www.youtube.com/v/Qx_8gxh76iM?fs=1″ vars=”ytid=Qx_8gxh76iM&width=640&height=388&start=&stop=&rs=w&hd=0&autoplay=0&react=1&chapters=¬es=” id=”ep4715″ /]
They may have gotten the idea from the musical tiles[embedplusvideo height=”507″ width=”640″ standard=”http://www.youtube.com/v/exwStqF6hqg?fs=1″ vars=”ytid=exwStqF6hqg&width=640&height=507&start=&stop=&rs=w&hd=0&autoplay=0&react=1&chapters=¬es=” id=”ep9081″ /] or the floor piano at FAO Shwartz. Most musicians don’t dance, but you pretty much have to dance to play these! Watch these impressive musician dancers get the most out of this wonderful “toy” that brings out the child in everyone.[embedplusvideo height=”507″ width=”640″ standard=”http://www.youtube.com/v/HOdB-0biTlM?fs=1″ vars=”ytid=HOdB-0biTlM&width=640&height=507&start=&stop=&rs=w&hd=0&autoplay=0&react=1&chapters=¬es=” id=”ep9119″ /]
By the way, I absolutely love the project that funded the piano stairs in Stockholm. It’s called the Fun Theory (www.thefuntheory.com). Sponsored by Volksvagen, it’s a contest of ideas for how to get people to do things that are good for them, the planet, etc, by making it fun. What a terrific idea!
